FINAL DAY; TOP-RANKED MINNESOTA CAPTURES BIG TEN TITLE

The 2006 Big Ten Championships concluded at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind., on March 5 with top-ranked Minnesota capturing the team titles, while a score of brothers claimed individual crowns. Minnesota won the championship with 138 points, while Illinois took second with 125 points and Michigan placed third with 115 points. Penn State placed fourth with 91 points, while Northwestern took fifth with 87.5 points and Iowa finished sixth with 86 points. Additionally, Wisconsin claimed seventh with 76.5 points, while Michigan State (68), Purdue (45.5) and Indiana (43.5) rounded out the top 10. Ohio State closed out the team competition with 40 points for 11th. Complete results to come.

DAY ONE COMES TO A CLOSE; NO. 1-RANKED MINNESOTA STANDS IN FIRST

The first day of the 2006 Big Ten Wrestling Championships in Bloomington, Ind., at Assembly Hall came to a close with seven No. 1 seeds still in the hunt for a conference title. Minnesota (116.50) leads the field, followed by Illinois (112.0), Michigan (89.0), Iowa (72.5) and a fifth-place tie between Northwestern (68.0) and Penn State (58.0) to round out the top five.

BIG TEN SESSION ONE COMES TO A CLOSE

Illinois leads all teams with a score of 62.0 points, followed by Minnesota with 57.5 points. The first session comes to a close with only 11 points separating the top-three teams. 2006 BIG TEN PREVIEW

Indiana University and the Big Ten Conference are proud to present the 2006 edition of the Big Ten Wrestling Championships on March 4-5 at Assembly Hall. The Big Ten is one of the toughest wrestling conferences in the nation, with nine teams ranked among the top 20, more than 50 wrestlers ranked among the top 20 in their respective weight class and five 2005 NCAA finalists. Leading the team rankings are No. 1 Minnesota, No. 2 Michigan, No. 8 Penn State, No. 9 Illinois, No. 11 Iowa, No. 13 Northwestern, No. 17 Indiana, No. 18 Michigan State and No. 19 Wisconsin.

BIG TEN WRESTLING: A HISTORY OF CHAMPIONS

The Big Ten Wrestling Championships are making their third stop in Bloomington. Indiana University has previously hosted the championships at Assembly Hall in 1972 and 1995. The championships feature three sessions over two days.

All 11 teams participate in the championships, each sending one competitor per weight class. Pre-seeding for the tournament will be released on Monday, Feb. 27. The official brackets will be released after the coaches seeding meeting held on Friday, March 3 at Noon.
