Between The Lines With Lauren Hines

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Lauren Hines is moving up the Indiana record book. With 14 career home runs, Hines sits in seventh place on the Hoosiers' career list. She recently plated her 100th career hit with a single at Iowa on April 10. Hines has not only done it with the bat, but this season, through hard work and dedication, Hines has turned herself into a reliable outfielder, making 26 consecutive starts in right field. Here is more on the Hoosiers clean-up hitter.

I came to IU because...
The academic opportunities that IU had to offer and the chance to be able to play for a Big Ten university.

What other schools recruited you?
Purdue, Western Michigan, Miami (Ohio)

Earning a degree from IU is important to me because...
There is a great prestige and honor in graduating and earning a degree from Indiana.

Being in the Big Ten allows me as a student-athlete to...
Travel around the country and play in a very competitive conference.

What is your most memorable softball experience and why? Hitting a home run against Purdue in the last game of my freshman year to beat them 3-0.

Who are the most influential people in your life?
My parents and my grandparents.

If you could go back in time and meet one person, who would it be and why?
Harriet Beecher Stowe because we are related.

Superstitions...
Try to wear the same sliders, or shirts to games, and always throw with the same person.

Name one interesting fact about yourself that people would be surprised about?
I played two sports in one season in high hchool - threw in track and played softball .

I've been scuba diving in the Cayman Islands.

If you could be a famous person for one day, who would it be and what would you do?
I would be Tommy Hilfiger's daughter and go shopping for a day.

If you were speaking to some small kids who want to become athletes, what is the most important thing that you would tell them?
Play as many sports as you can when your little because you have to just pick one to focus on when your older, so enjoy it while you can do it.
